DTP341 - Shapeshifter - Datatransmission

The say many hands make light work which is why this week Data Transmission has turned to five piece drum & bass outfit Shapeshifter to deliver this exclusive podcast mix. Already a household name in their native New Zealand with 3 platinum albums under their belt and their latest album ‘Delta’ riding high at number 1 in the Kiwi chart it seemed the right time to welcome them into the DT fold as they continue their quest to conquer the globe. As famed for their innovative live sets which have rocked some of the worlds biggest festivals with genre-defining performances at Glastonbury and The Big Chill as an evolutionary sound that has organically developed with the band, Shapeshifter is soon to be a name you're hearing a lot of.

This elemental, electronic soul outfit has morphed time and time again with seismic shifts in genre. From depth charged bass music, elastic electronic textures and barreling breakbeats to bedrocks of soul, jazz and rave that ground their experimentation it appears clear to us that the latest incarnation of their sound looks set to take Europe by storm. Their crossover success in the southern hemisphere aside Shapeshifter have also seen their work picked up by iconic South London drum and bass label Hospital Records who after hearing the track ‘Monarch’ quickly signed the effort for release on the imprint affirming the bands stake in not just the mainstream but also cutting edge underground culture. So with their fifth studio effort out now check out this ace mix showcasing Shapeshifter’s ability to traverse a plethora of different genres whilst retaining a quintessentially signature sound. Time to up the BPM!
